Finally I got to try this at Safra Yishun. It was easy to order and tasted delicious. I wish now they have more outlets here but I’m feeling thankful I got to taste this one day before fasting begins.
My order was sans meal and with caramelised onions. The Hubby’s was a double patty of Angus beef. We didn’t taste each other’s burgers, so engrossed we were sa outing our own burger likes. I’ll definitely be coming here again next time.
The Korean fried chicken wave is not showing signs of slowing down here on the red dot. The latest offering happens to be halal and luckily today, there was some time for The Girl and me to try it out.
The queue was very long even though it was not yet twelve! But the food arrived rather promptly. The chicken flavours are limited – it’s either the soy garlic or the hot, which shd be named ‘soy hot’. There are menu options for rice combo or fries. All the dine- in meals are served in army style mess tins. I find this to be highly redundant because when clearing the trays, we had to put the mess tins on the bin counter which took up space for the trays. They could have set up another corner near the bin for customers to stack the mess tins.
Anyways…the chicken were good. They were ultra crispy and soya saucy. The only thing is that it tends to be on the slightly salty side so eating with rice would be a great option. The fries came with either kimchi or seaweed seasoning. I chose the latter for today.
The Girl loves it and told me to come here often. Next time will already be fasting month once we come back from our KL trip so it looks like it’ll be several months later before we give 4Fingers another try.
By the way, the name of the restaurant created a small riddle in the family: how many fingers/claws does a chicken have? It was only with much certainty that our helper who lives in a kampong and has reared chicken emphatically asserted ‘four!’ Even the chicken feet lovers in the family kept saying three. 😂
The wonderful thing about living in this part of the world is getting to have a taste of global cuisine which is halal. Every time I go overseas on holidays, I would wonder if I could survive happily living in a place where I only eat one type of cuisine because that happens to be the only available halal cuisine. Inevitably when Muslims travel to Western places, they’d have to eat Indian or Turkish cuisine- kebabs, curries, Briyanis… Not that they aren’t delicious, don’t get me wrong. But living here in a multicultural tiny island, everyone is pampered for choice when it comes to food.
And I’m luckier to be living near a halal sushi place! The menu at Hei sushi keeps changing (for the better) and just a few days ago, I tried new things there. Such as my new favourite sashimi – managatsuo or butterfish. The taste is exactly like butter! No kidding.
That day my friend and I had that as well as the usual tempura vegetables, a soft shell crab crepe and Japanese curry rice.
One of the afternoons, The Man brought us to Frisco to a new halal eatery. The chicken was good as it was cooked over a grill. And no, The Man, if you are reading this blog for the first time, is not the man pictured below.
We took the picture of our server because he looked so much like the kids’ uncle! Canolli. I didn’t like this at all because it was hard and dry. In my mind, when I watch Bobby from Cake Boss, I thought it’d be light and flaky. Obviously, they don’t make good canollis here. Chicken was goooood… I so love this beetroot salad! I’ll never make beetroot at home and this was delicious. The meat was good but but the pilaf was not. It was not seasoned at all. The kids looking at how the chicken is cooked. Chicken Mattone. The name of the place.
In this post, I will share what we ate there. But, I will also make a promise that one day, one fine day, I am soon going to REPLICATE the RED LOBSTER CHEDDAR CHEESE BISCUITS, I KID YOU NOT!
People go there for the seafood. For me, the best thing I ate there were those darn biscuits! They were sooooooo delicious! Yes, The Man ordered lobster, and crabs and we had fish, I think, but the thing that stays in my mind, and the stuff I crave and dream about, are, yes, I shall shout it again, THE TO DIE FOR FREAKING GOOD BISCUITS! Pictures tell a thousand words, though you cannot begin to even imagine how sinfully delicious they are – warm, melts in the mouth, cheesy, savoury goodness. I rest my case.
Stuff of dreams… They give kids a bib…and adults too I think…Look at The Man reaching for them biscuits! Lobster…bleah…where are my biscuits? Crab legs…bleah…where are my biscuits???
I’ll make them one day soon; I’ve downloaded some knock-off recipes and will try till I get a semblance of the heaven I tasted…
